Aikido is a great choice for men, women, and teens because the Aikido techniques are effective regardless of a person’s size or strength. The martial art of Aikido is appropriate for teens and active adults. We have classes seven days a week. Beginners can attend all beginning and mixed-level classes and are encouraged to take as many classes as they can per month. We have an ongoing advanced class. Weapons classes are offered on a periodic basis.
Aikido techniques are based on moving into a strategic place while unbalancing the opponent and redirecting the attacker’s force into a swirl of centrifugal force. Attackers are controlled with pins, wristlocks, and throws. As the attacker, the student learns how to fall, absorbing energy from the force of the throw and rolling out of harm’s way. The relationship of balance and awareness between the attacker and defender is critical to the study of Aikido.
Aikido classes are cooperative and energetic. Aikido does not have competitions. Students practice in pairs or small groups after the initial warm-ups. Each person gets to participate as an attacker and defender. People learn body efficiency at their own rate and are advised by their senior classmates and the instructor.
Membership fees in the adult program cover all appropriate classes for the student. Students make their own schedule.
